Research the METU Ankara international undergraduate route with the correct campus, qualification and language policy. Meeting the published application minimum is the start of evaluation, not an admission promise.
METU Ankara requires an accepted academic qualification and evaluates applicants within programme quotas. English instruction does not make an English-test score compulsory at initial undergraduate application; registration and preparation rules are separate.
Next step: Open the qualification matrix linked by the International Students Office, then check the programme, result validity and current application dates.

Keep four METU decisions separate
This guide focuses on the Ankara undergraduate pathway. It does not apply Northern Cyprus campus prices or a graduate programme’s requirements to a new Ankara bachelor’s applicant.

Qualification examples from the linked minimum matrix
The matrix linked by METU’s office is dated 5 January 2024. It lists SAT total 1,200, with Maths 700 for engineering, architecture and specified science programmes; ACT 27; and IB diploma 33 with a relevant HL subject. These are dated minimum examples, not newly announced 2027 cut-offs.
The office says its decisions are holistic and quota-based. Use the entire qualification list for your country and programme, and check whether a newer matrix has replaced it. Do not select the easiest isolated number without the subject conditions.
Original case: a student meets the SAT total but not the specified mathematics minimum for engineering. The total alone does not meet that matrix route. They need an accepted alternative or an improved result before treating the requirement as satisfied.
METU’s English page states that instruction is in English and that submitting an English result is not compulsory for the undergraduate application. Admitted students without accepted evidence may take the METU English Proficiency Exam and, if necessary, attend preparation.
The same official page says IELTS tests taken on or after 24 December 2022 are no longer accepted. A generic guide saying “IELTS accepted” misses that restriction. Check the current equivalence table for recognised evidence and scores before paying for a language test.
The reviewed international schedule lists USD 1,200 per semester for engineering/architecture and specified sciences, and USD 800 for several other undergraduate groups, for those starting from fall 2023/24. It treats older cohorts and special programme categories separately.
The schedule also specifies how USD-listed fees are converted for payment in TRY and includes preparation-year notes. Keep the PDF with your budget; do not treat a current online currency conversion as the university’s final invoice.
Prepare the academic evidence before the portal deadline
Build a short evidence index: main accepted qualification, transcripts, identity/category evidence and programme-relevant supporting records. Use the official application steps for the exact required file types and current deadlines.
If you have multiple qualifications, show clearly which one meets the main requirement. Supporting achievements can add context but do not repair a missing required result. Ask the office about an ambiguous category before submitting, especially where citizenship or school location changes the applicable route.
1Confirm that you qualify for international admission at Ankara.
2Choose programmes and match one accepted primary qualification.
3Read the current document and result-validity requirements.
4Submit the application and preserve its confirmation.
5If admitted, meet registration, language and payment conditions.
Ankara housing and arrival are separate from admission
An academic offer is not a guaranteed dormitory room. Confirm the actual housing application, allocation date and fallback before travel. Ask the International Students Office how the residence-file handover works for your cohort.
Build the living budget from current campus and nearby-housing evidence, with the same room type and months. Avoid mixing METU Northern Cyprus dormitory quotes into an Ankara plan.
A METU shortlist checkpoint
Write down unresolved conditions next to the programme, not in a separate note you may forget when an offer arrives.

Official sources and verification
Source records support the guide. Page update dates describe editorial changes; they do not mean every linked rule was checked again today. Reopen the current call for your programme and intake.
Its reviewed undergraduate English page says IELTS tests taken on or after 24 December 2022 are not accepted. Check the current official equivalence table for recognised evidence.
Is SAT 1,200 enough for METU admission?+
The linked January 2024 matrix lists that total minimum, with additional Maths conditions for some faculties. It does not guarantee admission, and the current matrix and programme evaluation must still be checked.
Does this guide use Northern Cyprus campus fees?+
No. The focus is the Ankara international undergraduate route. Campus-specific admission, tuition and housing information should be kept separate.
