Master’s scholarships for Pakistani students: compare funding routes

Compare postgraduate routes by degree type, experience, nomination and remaining costs. A master’s scholarship directory and one programme’s open call are different evidence.

The short answer

Pakistani master’s applicants should compare direct university funding, HEC/partner nomination and joint-programme scholarships separately. Fresh graduates and experienced applicants can have different options. Commonwealth Master’s and Commonwealth Shared are different rounds; MBA-specific funding is covered in a separate guide.

Next step: Choose a taught, research or joint degree, then check the owner’s current call, Pakistani eligibility and required tests.

Fresh graduate or experienced applicant?

Begin with each scheme’s experience definition. Some university and joint-programme master’s routes accept eligible recent graduates. Others require work experience under specific timing and calculation rules. Do not impose one two-year rule on all postgraduate funding.

A fresh graduate should first check course prerequisites, graduation evidence, academic references and the actual language/test policy. An experienced applicant should also document the roles, dates and achievements the selected scheme requests. The correct route is the one whose published criteria the applicant actually meets.

HEC nomination, direct university and consortium applications

An HEC foreign-funded call can add a national application, test or nomination step alongside the partner’s application. Direct university funding may instead be assessed through a course application or a separate scholarship form. Erasmus Mundus is managed through the individual joint programme.

Commonwealth Master’s and Shared are not one open window

The central Commonwealth Master’s deadline passed on 20 October 2026. Commonwealth Shared has its own announced November opening and December deadline. Check the eligible Shared course and institution rather than carrying a closed nomination application into the other route.

The general Commonwealth Master’s scheme does not fund MBA degrees. Business-related course titles need to be read carefully: an MSc and an MBA are different qualifications, and award eligibility follows the actual degree.

Tests and academic evidence: no universal HAT or GRE rule

HAT is relevant where the applicable HEC postgraduate call requires it. USEFP’s Fulbright degree application has GRE requirements. Erasmus Mundus and direct university routes set their own evidence. Record validity periods, score reporting and whether the test must be completed by the actual deadline.

For the degree, confirm the required years/level of education and subject fit under the owner’s instructions. Do not assume that every 16-year qualification or every English-medium letter meets every programme’s requirements.

Check full funding against the costs left to pay

Separate tuition, mandatory fees, living allowance, insurance, travel and the payment schedule. A fee waiver cannot pay an airline bill. Reimbursement may still require upfront cash, while dependants and personal costs can remain outside an award.

Original example: a student’s accepted plan includes a confirmed tuition waiver but no confirmed living award. Their living-cost budget remains fully unfunded until an actual award decision says otherwise. A pending scholarship is a separate scenario, not money already available.

Build an admission-to-award timeline

Start with the earliest required stage: nomination, test or course admission can precede the scholarship form. Ask referees with enough time and follow any programme rules about AI or outside writing assistance. Statements must reflect the applicant’s own record and the actual course.

  1. 1Shortlist a degree type and academic fit.
  2. 2Check Pakistan/residence eligibility and application route.
  3. 3Record tests, references and both admission/funding dates.
  4. 4Submit each required application and retain confirmation.
  5. 5Read award, renewal, return/service and other conditions before accepting.

Choose the guide for your actual degree

Use this page for non-MBA postgraduate study abroad. MBA fee caps, work experience and repayable business-school aid need their own comparison. Domestic Pakistani university funding also follows a different institutional process.

Türkiye research degrees and funding

Academic graduate funding can differ from undergraduate tuition awards and professional master’s programmes. Check the graduate school, award category and remaining cost.

Frequently asked questions

Do all master’s scholarships require HAT?+

No. HAT applies to the HEC calls that require it; direct university and consortium routes can have different tests.

Is Commonwealth Shared the same deadline as Commonwealth Master’s?+

No. They have separate application processes and dates; the reviewed Shared round opens after the central Master’s deadline.

Can a fresh graduate apply for every master’s award?+

No. Some routes require experience or other conditions; check each actual scheme.

Does a university offer automatically include a scholarship?+

Only when its written terms expressly say so. Admission and funding decisions can be separate.
