What this calculator supports

Choose the qualification name that appears on your results record. The word Diploma alone is not enough to identify a BTEC tariff: different sizes have different grade scales. A GCE A level and an International A level should not be assumed to share every lookup entry; use the official calculator for an unlisted title.

On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to compare all columns.

Follow the qualification-to-offer workflow

First enter your results as awarded or predicted. Then remove qualifications your chosen course does not count. Finally compare the remaining total with the complete offer, including subjects, units and separate GCSE requirements. The same academic record can therefore produce a general tariff total and a smaller course-counted total.

  1. 1Match the exact qualification family and size.
  2. 2Select the grade; add an optional subject label.
  3. 3Exclude qualifications not accepted in the particular offer.
  4. 4Read the itemised result before comparing with the offer.

Avoid double counting overlapping study

This tool recognises an AS entered alongside an A level with the same subject label, ignoring case and surrounding spaces. It excludes that AS from the estimate. Without matching labels, the tool cannot infer that the study overlaps. It also cannot decide whether two vocational qualifications contain duplicated units.

UCAS explains that providers can restrict accepted qualifications and generally count the highest achievement in overlapping study. Use the include checkbox to model the course rule, but obtain confirmation if the overlap is unclear.

Read the reverse lookup correctly

The reverse lookup lists combinations of three passing GCE A levels. It returns exact totals where possible; otherwise it displays the smallest available total at or above the target. It does not round a target into a guaranteed offer match.

For example, a target of 113 has no exact three-passing-A-level match under these values. The next total is 120. This is useful arithmetic for a minimum-points condition, but it cannot substitute for an offer specifying particular grades.

Check a qualification outside the supported list

Scottish qualifications, Access to HE Diplomas, IB components, partial T Levels and other vocational awards can require different tables or additional information. Omitting them from this simplified calculator does not mean that they lack tariff points or are unacceptable to a university. Use the official UCAS lookup for the exact title and application cycle.
