First identify the correct benefit and cycle
The ordinary ER.GO benefit application deadline shown for 2026/27 was 24 August 2026 at 16:00 CEST. It is closed. A later correction, ranking or special-category notice is not automatically a new ordinary scholarship window. Do not wait for the next summer deadline without checking whether a specific current notice applies to you.

Three conditions have to work together
Financial need alone is not the whole application. ER.GO’s scholarship guidance distinguishes economic evidence, academic merit and enrolment requirements. A first-year applicant should understand which checks apply at entry and which apply later to keep the benefit.
Write your situation in plain terms before using the portal: new degree or continuing year, previous Italian university attendance, family residence and the institution you intend to join. If you have transferred, withdrawn or studied previously, ask ER.GO about the effect on your benefit position rather than simply selecting “first year” because this is your first year at a new university.

Overseas income and assets: prepare a consistent household file
Official ER.GO guidance says overseas economic circumstances are assessed using documents from the relevant authorities, with required translation and legalisation. Both income and asset indicators matter. A low salary figure does not resolve missing property or bank evidence.
Use the announcement to identify the reference year, household members and asset dates before requesting documents. Record who issued each document and what fact it proves. If a parent has no income or property, find the accepted evidence for that situation; an unexplained blank is different from documented absence.

| Evidence area | Preparation question |
|---|---|
| Household composition | Are the relevant family members identified consistently? |
| Income | Does the document cover the required period and every relevant person? |
| Movable assets | Are the accounts and reference date covered as required? |
| Property | Are ownership and the required property details explicit? |
| Translation/legalisation | Does the form meet the current authority’s rules? |

Resident, commuter and non-resident: explain the housing evidence
ER.GO distinguishes student statuses when calculating benefits, and its guidance requires appropriate domicile evidence for non-resident status. Living abroad before arrival is not, by itself, a substitute for the required study-period housing documentation.
Before signing a contract, check the accepted type of accommodation, duration, registration and submission requirements. Also understand what changes if you accept a residence place, live privately, commute or cannot document the expected domicile. Ask about your exact category before calculating a budget from the largest advertised amount.

Application workflow: admission and benefits remain separate
Maintain a university record and an ER.GO record. The university record contains the programme offer, academic documents and enrolment actions. The benefit record contains the annual application, economic evidence, housing request and ranking checks. Connect the two without assuming one authority automatically completes the other’s tasks.
A draft form is not a completed application. Read the submission instructions, keep the receipt and monitor the personal area used for your benefit. If an uploaded document is unclear, use the official support channel and refer to your application rather than sending sensitive evidence to an unofficial adviser.
- 1Find your annual announcement and covered institution.
- 2Confirm economic, merit and enrolment conditions for your category.
- 3Prepare the required overseas evidence and accepted translations.
- 4Submit the benefit and any housing request through the official service.
- 5Save the receipt and track rankings and outstanding conditions.
- 6Complete enrolment and later merit requirements within the applicable dates.
Read the result before treating it as money available
ER.GO explains that an eligible position means the requirements are met; assignment and any suspended condition must still be understood. A position can be affected by an enrolment record that has not yet become active. The official FAQ directs students to the university secretariat when that is the cause.
Keep an action log after results appear: status, reason, authority to contact and deadline for a response. If a correction route is available, follow the official channel within its window. Do not rely on a social-media post describing another student’s payment as your own payment timetable.

| What you see | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Eligible | Whether the benefit has been assigned and conditions remain |
| Suspended or conditional | The stated reason and institution responsible for clearing it |
| Excluded | Whether a documented correction or review route exists |
| Assigned | Payment/service conditions, account details and later obligations |

Plan the weeks before the first payment
Make a start-up budget independently of the scholarship headline. Travel, housing deposits, document preparation and initial living costs may arise before support is usable. If part of the benefit is delivered as a service, do not count that value again as unrestricted cash.
A useful budget has two versions: one with the benefit confirmed and one while the outcome is unresolved. This does not predict rejection; it shows what funding gap would prevent arrival or enrolment if the money is not available when needed.
Before the next application: retain your evidence trail
Save the annual announcement, submitted form, original documents, translations and every official message in a cycle-labelled folder. A later renewal is a new task with its own rules; do not assume the previous award renews automatically. Record the academic evidence you will need while there is still time to obtain it.
