Next cycle: prepare without inventing a deadline

Checked 13 October 2026: the official apply page still describes the 2026–2027 cycle and its past 15 January 2026 deadline. A 2027–2028 application date is not confirmed here. Do not change the year on the old date and treat it as a new call.

Prepare the degree, language, sending-partner and programme evidence while you wait. Once the owner publishes the new call, compare its eligible study options, partner process and required documents with your shortlist.

Check the correct intake and call

The official apply page available at this review still describes the 2026/27 application timeline, including a January 2026 deadline. That date belongs to a past cycle and must not be used as the next application deadline. Monitor the official call and your country's sending partner for the next confirmed intake.

Before preparing essays or paying for documents, check degree level, nationality, age if relevant, eligible study fields and language rules in the current call. Save the official application guide that applies to your intake.

Step 1: check your sending partner

Partner agreements determine which countries and fields are eligible. The sending partner may be a ministry, scholarship council, embassy or another appointed authority. Find the partner for your citizenship on the programme's official list and read its local nomination notice.

A partner can ask for a separate local form, documents or test and can close before the Hungarian portal. Keep both deadlines in your own calendar. Pakistani applicants should verify the current HEC notice as well as the Hungarian call; requirements can change by intake.

  • Country and eligible study areas
  • Local nomination form and tests
  • Partner document and translation rules
  • Local deadline and time zone
  • Scholarship portal deadline and time zone

Step 2: select eligible Hungarian programmes

Search courses offered to your sending partner and check the host institution's admission page. Compare curriculum, prerequisites, teaching language, location and degree level. The previous official timeline allowed two choices; confirm the new call's selection rules before assuming the same limit.

A strong selection explains why each course fits your existing qualification and future work. For a doctoral course, check whether a supervisor statement or research proposal is required by the chosen doctoral school.

Step 3: prepare documents and language evidence

Use the intake-specific application documents list. Academic records, an identification document, a motivation letter and proof of language ability are common categories, but exact requirements vary by study level and course. Do not substitute a generic internet checklist for the host university's instructions.

Some institutions may accept evidence of previous education in the course language; others require a test or a higher level. Ask the university for written clarification if it does not explain whether a Medium of Instruction certificate qualifies.

  • Degree and academic transcripts
  • Identity and nationality documents
  • Motivation and course-fit statement
  • Language proof accepted by the host university
  • Research plan or supervisor evidence where required

Step 4: complete both submission routes

Complete the scholarship portal and your sending partner's process. Keep copies of the submitted forms and the exact documents used in both. A completed portal form alone does not prove nomination.

After the partner's nomination, universities may contact shortlisted applicants for an entrance assessment. Check your inbox and official portal regularly; verify any interview invitation comes from a legitimate institutional address.

Step 5: compare funding with your real budget

The programme offers tuition exemption, a stipend, accommodation support and health care provisions, with different stipend arrangements for doctoral applicants. The official overview warns that the award does not necessarily meet all living expenses.

Estimate upfront travel and housing deposits plus ongoing rent and utilities. Confirm whether your offer includes a dormitory place, when payments start and what conditions govern continuation of support.
